What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease which occurs when a person's body doesn't create enough insulin or doesn't use insulin the properly. Insulin allows your cells to change blood sugar (aka glucose) into energy. Diabetes causes the sugar to build up in your blood.
Diabetes is usually classified as type 1 or type 2. If you have type 1 diabetes, your body produces little or no insulin. If you have type 2 diabetes, your body produces some insulin but can't use it appropriately or makes too little to control your glucose level. The majority of adults with diabetes have type 2 diabetes.
